About SPFLC

As Scotch Plains Fanwood Lacrosse Club enters it second decade, we thank you for your continued support. Our teams, from youngest youth grades through High School level have steadily showed improvement as nearly every year we see higher registrations and more skilled athletes. With the help of our coaches, parents and other volunteers, we strive to improve the skill level of all of our players, as well as teaching life skills like teamwork, sportsmanship, and the value of hard work.

As our program continues to evolve, we will always look for more ways to improve the players' experience and provide them the best opportunities to develop as players.  This year is no different.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Lacrosse Club was established to introduce and promote youth lacrosse in Scotch Plains-Fanwood Township.

SPFLC is proud to be an all-volunteer, registered non-profit organization that brough youth lacrosse to Scotch-Plains Fanwood in 2007.  Since then we have established ourselves as one of the fastest growing youth lacrosse programs in the state providing quality lacrosse instruction and playing opportunities to hundreds of boys and girls from K through 8th grade. Besides managing the youth organization, SPFLC also supports the SPF High School lacrosse program which is currently self-funded.  We thank all of our past and present board members, coaches, volunteers, players, parents, and high school administration and Booster Club for helping to make lacrosse in town a success.
General Notes
Due to SPFLC being an all-volunteer organization the number of teams we field is based on the availability of qualified coaches as well as the number and ability of players.
Organization/Divisions
Co-Ed "Soft Toss":
K and 1st grade division for Girls and Boys designed to introduce the youngest players to the sport.  Helmets, gloves and arm pads are highly recommended but not needed.  The Youth Club will try and get used helmets for players, but once we run out of those than the equipment is the parents responsibility.  The players are taught stick skills and the fundamentals of lacrosse.  The players are then playing a short sided 3 on 3 game of Lacrosse with no goalies.  This division is strictly "in-house" with no travel. There is no limit to registration and we will take all kids that register.  The emphasis here is skill building, sportsmanship and fun.
Girls Division:
girls lacrosse is a non-contact sport
- required equipment, provided by the player:  girls-style stick, eyeguard, cleats. Uniforms are purchased through the club (you can choose your own number).
- girls teams are organized as 2nd/3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th and 6th grade combined, and 7th and 8th grade combined.
- girls teams compete in the JGLA league and will play both home and away games.
- the season is March through June with at least 2 practices per week and 15 games, plus tournament/s..
- especially in the 7th/8th grade level playing time may be managed for competitiveness.
Boys Division:
- boys lacrosse has limited contact in the younger levels and full contact at the older levels.
- required equipment, provided by the player: boy-style stick, helmet, gloves, arm guards, shoulder pads, protective cup, cleats.  Uniforms are purchased   through the club (you can choose your own number).
- boys teams are organized strictly by grade level except for the 2nd/3rd grade team which is combined. We field 2/3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8th grade teams.
- boys teams compete in the NJJYLL league and will play both home and away games.
- the season is March through June with at least 2 practices per week and 15 games, plus tournament/s.
- especially in the older grade levels, playing time may be managed for competitiveness.
Playing time philosophy:
At the younger levels the focus is on fun and fundamentals with playing time made as equal as possible.  As the grade level increases, so does the competitiveness so in order to compete adequately in games with other programs, coaches will determine playing time based largely on ability and performance as well as attendance and attitude.  The goal of the older grade levels is to provide a high level of instruction and challenge and to develop players who will go on to play in high school.
